Beaufort

Notice that nice bright blue porch ceiling?  It is more then just a pleasing color to paint a porch, it's used to keep evil spirits away.  That particular color of blue is referred to by Southerners as haint blue, the word haint originated from that african word for haunts.  The shade of blue is meant to look like water, since evil spirits can't go under water it is used to confuse them and keep them away from your household.  As you scroll through the pictures look to see how many porch ceilings are colored this protective shade of haint blue.
